Heartbreaking Update on UPS Accident: Death Toll Climbs to 13

The total count of fatalities from the freight aircraft which burst into flames and crashed has now reached 13, according to official reports.

Official's Announcement

“On my way to the Union’s memorial service, I learned of a 13th person that died as a result of the aircraft accident,” wrote the municipal leader in a public communication. “My prayers are with the relatives, companions and peers of all who were lost in this week’s disaster. We will overcome this collectively.”

Victims Named

A statement from the company named the flight crew aboard the McDonnell Douglas MD-11 as Pilot Richard Wartenberg, Co-pilot Lee Truitt, and Relief Captain Dana Diamond.

“Our sympathies go out to every staff member who has been impacted and everyone in our local region – supporting you and guaranteeing you get the support and resources you need is our priority,” the firm’s message stated.

Investigation Updates

Government investigators disclosed that the freight aircraft’s left wing burst into flames and an engine separated just after departure from the airfield, causing the jet to crash and burst into a blaze.

The NTSB announced it is examining the aircraft’s service record, that was in the state for maintenance several weeks ahead of the accident.

Aircraft records showed the aircraft was on the runway in the Texas city from the start of last month to 18 October.

“We are cognizant that this aircraft was located in San Antonio,” said an NTSB member on Thursday, not giving a exact period. “We will examine every piece of service that was performed, including the San Antonio visit, all the way to the time of the journey.”

Recovery of Vital Components

The audio device and data recorder were found, and the motor was located on the airfield.

The units – known as flight recorders – were constructed to survive crash impacts and intense temperatures from infernos, and they looked to be in one piece when located among the remains. Authorities plan on analyzing information from the devices.

Aircraft’s concluding recorded information indicated an elevation of 475 feet and a speed of 210 miles per hour prior to the impact.

Repair Background

Based on FAA files from last month, a fissure on a part in the center wing fuel tank demanded maintenance.

The company ST Engineering, which said it offers aircraft servicing for the carrier’s aircraft and manages a service location in Texas, chose not to speak, but expressed it would work closely when relevant authorities reached out it.

Activities Restart

At the same time, UPS Worldport activities continued last night with its Next Day Air or nighttime procedure, representative Jim Mayer said. The three tarmacs at the aviation hub were likewise back in operation.

The sorting center in Louisville is the firm’s biggest. The hub engages in excess of a large number of individuals in the locality, processes three hundred trips per day and sorts in excess of four hundred thousand items each hour.

Public Response

A gathering was organized on the evening of that date by the regional labor union, which represents employees at the aviation hub, the firm’s largest air cargo hub.

Worker representatives, which stands for UPS workers, commenced the memorial with a moment of silence at the evening hour, the rough moment of the accident previously.

“This event was so abrupt, so unforeseen,” the mayor addressed the assembly of two hundred. “No one had a chance to part to any of those who we have said farewell to.”
