Larian Studios Unveil a Latest Divinity, Labeling it Their Largest RPG Ever

The anticipation surrounding The Game Awards has been intense, notably after host Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling photo of a strange statue. The question has now been solved. The acclaimed developer is working on a completely new Divinity game.

Titled simply Divinity, the game was presented with a bold trailer featuring striking imagery, from a burning man to an orgy and the literal unleashing of hell.

Not the Expected Sequel

For those expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. The studio clarified that a third Original Sin game to its beloved RPGs is not being worked on now.

Nevertheless, the developer referred to this new Divinity as a evolution of the core franchise. This phrasing hints that the team might be crafting a faster-paced experience instead of another tactical title. At this moment, we can only guess, as only a teaser video is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is widely praised and arguably it pioneered the contemporary revival of crunchy computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for rich lore, choice-driven narratives, and flexible progression—qualities that recently reached new heights in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is familiar fare, what makes Divinity apart is the unprecedented level of trust bestowed upon the player.

Where many modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is packed with specialized paths you can achieve with a particular class or origin with a personal story.

The series is also notoriously flexible, enabling players to find creative solutions throughout the entire experience. Most missions can be completed in diverse methods, sometimes in lateral fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you heeded something an animal companion shared.
  • Or, you could overcome an obstacle by teleporting a glob of lava in a clever way.

More to Come

It is precisely these elements that lead fans and critics to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games of all time. Now, the RPG community can look forward to a new entry in this legendary franchise.
